Cole Maddox is a bear shifter set to one day take over the den. A den that is having problems producing cubs. The council believes it is due to the diluting of pure shifter blood with the mating with humans. They have outlawed the practice and will destroy any human mate taken by a bear. Cole is being pressured to find a shifter mate quickly.
When Cole goes to a shifter bar he sees a female shifter whom he is considering as a life mate when he catches the scent of her companion, Avery Rogers, he is drawn to her as he has been to no other. What follows is a night of unbelievable passion.
Then the shock of his life. Just as he believes he has found his mate he discovers that she is human. He walks away from her without a warning or explanation. Turning what Avery thought was something beautiful into something a sordid one night stand. Even though he knows there is danger to Avery and himself, Cole cannot stay away from Avery. His obsession with Avery will take them to the very edge. Is there a way to keep Avery safe and have the woman he wants as a mate? Or will the council see them both dead first.
Intense drama and emotional scenes peppered with twist and turns throughout. Be prepared for the climatic ending. You will be begging Ms. Clarke for more. I would love to find out more about the other members of the den and what happens to the characters after the story ends.

So many plot holes, so much ridiculousness. True love from a one night stand and a HEA even when it makes no sense. Don't waste your time.
I loved to read this book and can't wait for the second part to come out. I want to see how it turns out. It was a great short story. Keep up the great work terra!!
A short but excellent read. What lengths will Cole go through in order to be with his mate? This is a high energy romantic tale where the Alpha has to decide what is right not only for his clan but for himself.
Enjoyed reading this book, it has a great storyline. Can't wait for more from this author. I received a FREE copy to read voluntarily for an honest review.
The chemistry between Cole and Avery is electric. The clan hates humans and Cole knows not to ever get involved with one but he thinks Avery is a shifter so he has an incredible night with her only to find out later she's human. It all spirals from there. Meredith Clarke sure knows how to make you want to keep turning pages. Great book!!
This was an interesting storyline. Cole was Alpha, the elder was wanting him to get his mate. Zoey got Megan to go to a bar with her. Cole got Megan to spends the night and they couldn't forget each other. Cole and several others left to make their own pack because they wanted to kill her.
After Avery graduated, she was lucky to get a job after a short search. The job was good and she liked her co-workers. As CEO and an alpha black bear, Cole liked his life and everything that went with it. Although he was pressured to find a mate, he really didn't want to settle down. When Cole saw Avery the first time, he couldn't understand why he was enchanted by her. The pull that he had, made it impossible to stay away even if she was only normal
