From female road warrior to spreadsheet jockey The true story of motorcycle racing, corporate burnout, and a woman’s quest to reclaim the adventurous spirit of her youth.
An inspirational memoir recounting the epic journey of a woman fueled by the search for freedom and adventure. To Drink the Wild Air is the unique story of triumph on the motorcycle racetrack, freewheeling on the open roads, and a detour into the corporate world that leads to burnout—and a search for the long-lost virtues of youth.
Birgit Soyka gives the reader a glimpse of her life philosophy from the back seat of a motorcycle. Her memoir races along the twisting roads of untamed dreams and an obsession to follow the horizon. Audacious and honest with a healthy dose of humor, Birgit’s story is a reminder to live life to the fullest, to persevere no matter what the obstacles, and to always remain true to yourself and your dreams.

To Drink the Wild Air a memoir One Woman Quest to Touch the Horizon eBook Birgit Soyka Lisa Taylor Huff

We met Birgit in San Francisco a few years ago. Our love of birds brought us together. When we found out Birgit published her story, I immediately added "To Drink the Wild Air" to my reading list. I can't deny the fact that her background in motorcycle racing intrigued me immensely. But there is so much more to her story than racing! Many times throughout the book, I thought, "wow, I could never do that!" But that's what makes this book so worth reading! Birgit probably never said those words. This was one of the most exciting and inspirational stories I've ever read! Anyone who ever had a dream, a passion, or just a plain old corporate job, will love this book and will hopefully be inspired by it.

...and like your friend Stephen, my copy of the book is also dog-eared, coffee-stained and has chewed-off paper bits all around the edges, compliments of our happy cockatiel, Lou!

Thanks Birgit for sharing your awesome story!

To Drink the Wild Air a memoir One Woman Quest to Touch the Horizon eBook Birgit Soyka Lisa Taylor Huff Reviews

There are not many books about Women Motorbike Racers. As a former woman racer myself, it was interesting to read about Birgit's exploits
I was lured to this book by the unanimity of the reviews for it. I offer an alternative view to those previously posted.
For me, this book has been unimpressive and a drag. 60% of the way through, and I am bored to tears. Birgit has managed to drive me to this through a near ceaseless display of conceit and selfishness. It is far from being inspirational. Consider this from the book "It was a great party and so out of control that we had to deal with the neighbors complaining, police visiting, fistfights in the kitchen, and lively arguments over whether punk or rock was more suitable for the occasion". This was a summary of a party which marked Birgit's return to the USA. That paragraph, for me, sums up what this book is about a determination to "do what I want to do" irrespective of the thoughts, feelings, or consequences for others. Perhaps I'm being harsh, and I am willing to believe that Birgit is a caring, kind person, but 60% of the way through the book and that side of her has not emerged. If you need inspiration to do what the hell you like, then this book may work for you. For me, this book is too self centred to warrant a wider recommendation.
A stunning book, an extraordinary story.
A young woman tackles her way notwithstanding the hurdles which life held in store for her.
She lives her dream. Worth reading for all, in particular for those who love adventurer's tales which really happened,
and for those who never allow their "wings being cut".
Everyday after work, I looked forward to reading this book. It's very inspirational, philosophical, and simply, a great read. There were times where you could really relate to the author and admire her for her strong will. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a "pick me up" in their life. Don't leave this page without putting it in your shopping cart!
I couldn't put down this book! It takes you through a rich well lived life, filled with adventures and real current life choices. We all come across similar choices but few of us have the courage to take the path of what we want in life, what makes us really happy, as Birgit has done. It brings adventure and philosophical questions together into one well narrated book. And it dawns on you at the end how we all are at the mercy of something greater than us... at one point in our lives or another...

Inspiring, fun, and full of excitement... A must have book to read! In no time somebody will want to make a movie out of it!
Read this book, "To Drink the Wild Air" if you want to be inspired or even wowed by living through a woman's motorcycle adventures throughout the globe. Her childhood growing up experiences in Germany already begins to get you ready for the wild ride. Throughout the book you can sense some of her disappointments of feeling trapped... especially with the corporate world. However, she never gave up pushing forward in reaching her goals. Birgit wants the freedom to call it as she sees it and live her life to the fullest. As I was reading her book, I felt inspired by her accomplishments and got the desire to take on more risks in fulfilling more of my life goals. Thank you Birgit for such an inspirational book... Although I do not ride motorcycles, I feel that the wisdom and creativity of your book, "To Drink the Wild Air" can inspire anyone to reach for the stars!
